My lockdown sketch book

I invite you into the secret world of one of my sketchbooks. This contains an intimate conversation; self with self. During the Covid19 period of 2020-21, when we were all isolated to different degrees, I found myself marooned in central Vietnam in the little World Heritage town of Hoi An. After all the tourists had flown home and seasonal workers had gone back to their homes all over Vietnam, this semi rural fishing and farming town fell into a slumber. It was an interesting time of introspection for all creatives. It was a pause, a retreat and, in many ways, a gift of time during which so many of us took stock of our practice and contemplated a new way forward. For me, this was a period of experimentation and discovery and, through this, I found my way back to the artist I had been in my teens. It came as a surprise and this sketch book tells some of that story. My sketch book is my journal, my subconscious and my mirror. I learned that to produce meaningful work, I must be true only to my unique self.
