Bridget March is known for her abstract paintings about our origins and nature and, also, for her individual approach to landscapes.
About Me
After living as an artist and gallerist in Vietnam for 12 years, I returned to my Yorkshire roots in 2024. Vietnam was a transformative experience that reshaped my outlook, enriched my colour palette, and made me a more experimental artist. Mythologies that underpin our cultures, from Confucianism to Celtic legends, Aboriginal dreaming to Chinese horoscopes, and the rites of prehistory, have given me insights into the way folklore, traditions, and landscapes shape our identities. These are themes I return to again and again.
Over millennia, we evolved to adapt and thrive on this planet we share with other magnificent creatures and plant life, the distractions of the industrial revolution and modern economics have pulled us away from our true focus. It is crucial that we return our attention to the environments that nurture all living beings, enabling us all to flourish and find contentment; otherwise, we risk our own extinction.
Recurring themes in my paintings are our shared origins, a sense of place and belonging and my need to express a total joy of life. My paintings, in watercolour and in acrylics, are distinguished by vivid colours, a playful use of pattern and symbolism and the wide variety of abstract and figurative subjects. Like Picasso, I am more experimental and produce works in series and I cannot predict what I might do next. Life is short and there is so much to experience.
I have an individual approach to landscapes using bold colours to create moody skies and moonlit, starry heavens that convey a sense of magic. I build my paintings with fine glazes of paint over a vibrant ground to develop harmonious palettes. Here and there, the ground colour peeks through to lead the eye around the composition. Be surprised.
Those who collect my work recognize my style. Newcomers to my work are sometimes baffled by the variety. My paintings are sold in the USA, Australia, South East Asia and Europe. I also accept commissions when the subject intrigues me.
