The prodigal artist

So, here I am back in my homeland after 13 years in a tropical paradise. I wonder how Paul Gauguin felt when he returned from Tahiti on the first occasion?

Paul has been a guiding light for me as I tussled with the difficulties of living in a very foreign land. After all, he traveled to that beautiful place all the way from Paris without really knowing what he would find, without travel insurance, health insurance or a Rough Guide. He was driven to go - so he went.

We go to work abroad, whether for short or long terms, make adjustments, new relationships, new climates, new challenges and mainly we adapt pretty well. What is like to come home, to adapt once more and to learn how people react to your experiences.

I have only been home a matter of days but, already, the cost of living is giving me a few more shocks than I expected.
